Post 6 - Technology in the Classroom
Watch the Technology youtubes on the right. Reflect upon what you saw. What are your thoughts about technology in the classroom? How could the Amazon Kindle change typical textbooks in the future? Please share an example of how a teacher effectively or ineffectively utilized technology in the classroom.

I was impressed with the Smart Board. This is a major improvement to learning it (the Smart Board)has so many applications. Wonderful. The remote response system woould be useful in the high school and college level of learning. I was NOT impressed with Kindle at all. NOTHING is better than textbooks.
ReplyDeleteI think that the Smart Board is amazing. It does not surprise me how far along technology has come along. Its amazing how one touch of a screen can act like a mouse. I personally love the Kindle. Nothing is worse then having to carry around 100 books. With the Kindle you only need to worry about one thing. I really dont know what to think about the Remote Response System. I personally just like paper and pen. The only thing that comes to my mind about a teacher using technology is when in my math class we would do the work on a piece of paper, but had to put our answers in a computer that we were sitting at.
ReplyDeleteI think the Smart Board was a great use of technology in the classroom. I liked how it uses visual learning and kids can get more involved in the lesson. When it comes to the Amazon Kindle, I think it is great. It becomes a hassel carrying around all your books. The Remote Response system really made me think about how far technology has come into classroom education. I liked the Remote Response System. I do agree with Chad when it comes to math. I would like to do the work on a peice of paper. But other than that I would like it.
ReplyDeleteTechnology in the class room has it's positives and negatives. I think the smart board is a great idea and it has a ton of things to enhance learning and engage children as well as older students. I agree with Mary I was not impressed with the Kindle either, I like textbooks. I also thought the Response System was a pretty neat idea I would probably use it in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Esther in that technology has its advantages and disadvantages. In each classroom I have observed (my teacher sends me out to other teachers sometimes), all of the teachers have a Smart Board and use it constantly. I think it is amazing as well as the others. It allows interaction with the students through the technology they each use today. I think the Amazon Kindle would be great, but the fact that the student can surf the web bothers me. A way that technology is still a hassle is an example of the teacher I am observing. The computers in the entire school were down Monday and mid-term grades were due at 3. Even though it is advancing, we still can't depend on it!
ReplyDeleteI really do love the smart boards, i had them in my classrooms as a high school student and we used them alot in business classes and science classes. They are great to have for presentations. They really do engage the students more. The student response device i think is okay, I like how it gets all of the students involved to answer group questions. i think the amazon kindle is an incredible thing but i agree with krista about how i dont like how the students can surf the web at anytime. And i also agree with the fact that it would be so nice not to have to carry heavy textbooks around. I like it when teachers use the smart board for lectures and when using powerpoint for their lessons. I think that is an effective method of using technology in the classroom.
ReplyDeleteI think the SmartBoard is an amazing thing. I have observed in a classroom that used a SmartBoard. Not only was the teacher excited about using it but the students also were. They were the first classroom in the school to recieve one so it was really new and exciting to them. I think that the Amazon Kindle can be a great thing, however, I do better by reading straight from the book. I get distracted and find it more difficult to read something from a computer screen and it is easier for me to print it out because then I am able to hi-lite and write notes on it. I think all of this new technology is great but I do believe it will take time for Kindles to replace textbooks.
ReplyDeleteThe smartboard is definitely a big advancement in classroom technology and i love it! My high school math teacher was one of the first teachers in our school to have the smartboard and he did a great job with it. He was able to get us all involved in class because it was so cool and fun to use, but we also got a lot accomplished. Amazon Kindle is a good idea but i believe that textbooks in a way are better. Having Amazon Kindle it is easier for students to get off task because you can surf the web and find things to easily distract you, using textbooks you dont have that problem. I think that you retain more with a textbook because you can read and highlight at the same time and you can always have the information with you. Technology in the classroom is a new and effective way to teach, but textbooks still work as well, even though they are not as interesting as a smartboard may be.
ReplyDeleteI really like the smartboards as well. We didn't have them at my highschool back home and I have never even heard of them until now. We use the smartboard often in one of my classes and the best thing about it is the board is touchscreen. Technology never stops amazing me. I believe that learning off of a computer is a bad idea. There are plenty of "better" things a student can think of then sitting on a website and following along with the teacher. I'm sure someday text books will be gone and our generation will be known as "old school" because we grew up using text books, but I still think they are better to learn from.
ReplyDeleteI like smartboards very much. pre school students were enjoying to use it and they seem to learn a lot by using the smartboards. It is very good that other students can see what the student( touching the smartboard and solve the math problem)is doing. Everyone can share how to solve problems. About Amazon Kindle, I like to use text books. It is great that we have well developed technology, but I still think learning from text books are better than Amazon Kindle.
ReplyDeleteThe Smart Boards were awesome! I was really impressed with the way they can enhance classroom learning and the excitment of the kids. I would love to use a Smart Board in my classroom some day! The Amazon Kindle seemed to have some positive sides-being able to store 1000s of books, easy to carry-, but over all I still like books. I think the Amazon Kindle would be a distraction and not a tool to be used in the classroom. An example of technology that I have learned about lately was in during my Observation. The school that I observed at had a great computer system that had all the student's grades on it. Parents were able to look at their children's grades anytime and teachers were able to print off grades for students. I thought this system was extremely helpful and useful! The teachers still kept a gradebook though, because technology can not be counted on all the time.

I think that people need to change with the changing times. The world is getting more technical and the U-tube about the top ten ways to use technology in the classroom basically said it all. I think that its an excellent idea to utilize students cell phones, ipods ect. I also think that its very effective to utilize the internet in the ways of I-tunes and blogging. This is effective because the average students gets on the internet at least ounce a day anyway. So you might as well incorporate their daily routine into your classroom setting. I think that this will be an effective teaching method because it creates more relativlity with your students and doesnt make them feel as intimidated by the "teacher, student" steroptype.
ReplyDeleteI think the smart board is a amazing, i have seen prjectors in use in my old school, but neve a touch one. I think it will help the students and teacher along with them actually interacting with whats on the screen. It helps the students get interacted with their learning activity. but in away its kind of risk taking with computers its not always 100% relieable. the power can go off, or they whole school might be having some difciculty with the power system. So you should always have a back uo, just incase. Like my friends school i visit i heard from some teachers and her parents they had their own point of views.

ReplyDeleteI think the smart board can be helpful in teaching some lessons. The world video was really cool. I don't think it should be used for everything though. When you have a whole classroom of students and only a few can be at the smart board doing the activity, the rest of the class might get bored. I thought the electronic textbooks were interesting. I think its a good idea in theory but still has somethings that need to be worked out on it. Using theses in classes could allow students to read Twilight or something other than their History book or whatever the subject may be. But I definitely think it will make teaching easier and students life easier to just have that one thing to carry around and not 20 pound of books. I had a teacher in high school who used the smart board. It was a web design class and her using the board made things easier to understand because she could type in the codes like we did and then highlight and point out certain things with the markers. My teacher I am observing now has her grade book on the computer. It has parents emails in it and parents can get online and look at their child's grade at anytime. This makes communication much easier.

I think that Smart Boards are a good thing for teaching lessons. I also like the idea of the different technology schools are using to communicate with the parents of the children attending that school. That type of communication is good because it makes it easier to know there is always a way to come in contact with a teacher if you have any comments, questions or concerns.
ReplyDeleteI feel smart boards are a great thing for a classroom. they make lessons so much more teachable to students and get them into it because the kids are astonished by the new technology.
ReplyDeleteMy highschool had smartboards but I never had a class where the teacher had one in the room expect once and then it was not working right. However, I am interested in the Kindle and the fuure. I wonder how common they are. I have never heard of them until I watched the video. They can hold textbooks from highschool to college. Buy the Kindle and just load one's book on to it.
ReplyDeleteI have never used smart boards before and think it looks like a great thing to have in a classroom. I found a lot of the guidelines to technology in the classroom very interesting. For example the 10 ways to use tech in the classroom showed me many different ways to connect with the students that I would never have thought of before. The you tube videos expanded my ideals of teaching!
ReplyDeleteI think the smart board is a great idea. Its a good technolgy in the classrooms and has great potential to be used everywhere. When i begin my teaching career its defintly something im going to be looking into.
ReplyDeleteThis is a topic that really interests me. I absolutely believe that teachers should find innovative ways to introduce new ideas through technology in the classroom. It bothers me that teachers here at Lindenwood have smartboards in many of their classroom and they don't use them because they don't know how. Why can't they learn? Many of my teachers aren't even very good with the computers in their rooms. I know that things like smartboards and computers can be distracting but they can also be VERY helpful. I am observing a fourth grade classroom where they use a smartboard weekly and laptops daily. When used as learning tools, the students interest level concerning the project at hand skyrocket. In the elementary school I'm at the teacher is required to take classes to learn about the smartboard before they can have one in the room, but it proves to be well worth it.
ReplyDeleteI think that the use of technology in the classroom is not only a great idea, but is essential in the world today. Today after we are out of school and on our own in the real world, so many work forces rely on us to know how to properly use the technology that is available to us to solve a problem. Teaching students how to use this technology will create a strong background for then as they grow up so that they are able to get a good job, the technology will not limit. I also think; however, that we should hesitate relying souly on teaching through technology there are many lifeling skills that cannot be taught through a computer we need to find that common ground.
ReplyDeleteI think that the smartboards are wonderful for students of all ages. A teacher, if trained properly, can effectively use the smartboard in his/her room to provide the best learning environment for all student, both visual and audio learners. You can do anything on a smartboard, from games, to whole lesson plans.
ReplyDeleteI think that the smartboards great! I think that this new technology will be very effective in the classroom. I think it will provide students to learn to their best potential with these smartboards that are being developed. I thought the Amazon Kindle was geat as well. I think that can be very useful for students. Although all this technology is being developed to enhance learning, I still think it is important to have other methods of teaching where you don't have to rely on technology at all times.

ReplyDeleteThe Amazon Kindle is a great thing. It will be better than carrying around mulitple books. This could encourage students to read more. Technology in the classrooms can be effective if used properly. My senior year in high school, my teacher set up a big screen television in her typing class. The best student used it to show the rest of the class how to become a better typist.
ReplyDeleteTechnology in the classroom is a wonderful idea, however I feel that it is often underutilized or operated poorly. For technology to be effective in the classroom I feel that it is important that it be used seamlessly with textbooks, handouts, and lecture. Too often teachers struggle using new (or even sometimes older) technology thus subtracting from the learning environment. It is important that as more and more students use technology in their daily lives as entertainment and a source of news that teachers use it as a method of connecting with students. For a teacher to ineffectively use technology further separates teachers from students and could possibly hinder the learning environment.
